The principal of having an audit is to obtain an independent report and opinion from a suitably qualified expert, made to persons to whom the auditor is responsible.

Statutory Audits
These are a review/examination of the transactions and their recording by an independent expert who expresses an opinion as to whether the accounts of the entity audited show a true and fair view, or otherwise under the terms as set down in law and the guidelines of the professional bodies.

Branch Audits
A review/examination of the transactions of a branch operation and their recording, conducted by an independent expert who expresses an opinion normally under responsibility to an in-charge or principal auditor.

Special Audits
Broadly these are audits conducted for special purposes to confirm or determine outcomes or events. They are normally based on the experience and expertise of the auditor with a reliance on their independence.

Club Audits
These are a special type of audit focused on the requirements of the club industry. They normally will have legal a requirement or basis.

Local Government Audit
These are independent audits of government bodies or departments required and completed under legislation controlling the operations of those instrumentalities.

Internal Audits
Internal audits are part of the internal management and control of normally company’s or body’s. They are not independent in the sense they are conducted/controlled by part of the management team and are responsible to management, whereas independent auditors are responsible to the owners of the business.

Statutory Authority Audits
These are independent audits of government bodies or departments required and completed under legislation controlling the operations of those instrumentalities.

Trust Account Audits
These are limited audits relating to the trust function normally of special businesses or undertakings. They are limited to the extent they relate only to trust items, records and activities and not to the overall activities of the entity. They are conducted by an independent expert, suitable qualified and registered, producing a report normally to a controlling body attesting to the particular trust recording and activity requirements or otherwise.
